Week 13
Well this week has been pretty productive! Made a couple vests out of
t-shirts (thank you pinterest), got the t-shirts for $2 and $1.50.
Haven't worn them yet (other then to try them on) trying to find some
cute short sleeve tops to wear with them.
I also started on another project I found on pinterest, making a pull over hoodie inot a zip up hoodie. All I have to do is find a zipper that fits it. With all the zippers that I have found over the past few months I should have at least one! But anyways I hope to finish it this week if I do have one.
So for my Springfield trip, which is still in progress, we went to Entertainmart today and I bought four movies, my collection is up to 287 now. I love movies!!! I got Closer, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Date Night and Evan Almighty.
Goodwill-was nothing great, small but other then that it was the typical Goodwill.
Red racks-HUGE!!! Good prices as usual and did I mention HUGE! I bought a purse and rit dye for $4.
Thrift Shop on the Plaza-all I can say is Meh...over priced preppy shop with a lot of new stuff and super small.
Thrift Haven-Decent prices, bigger then I thought it would be. Very organized and friendly people.
Red racks #2- Decent size, prices are as usual. The only thing is it's a little crowded, organized but crowded.
I will be going to more tomorrow so I will have a few more reviews to do later, prolly on the next blog. Also going to Osceola Cheese!!! Nom nom, I love cheese! I will defiantly have pics from this!
Well that's all folks, lots to do tomorrow so hoped you enjoyed this one. Next weeks post will probably be late as well because I will be going on the 14th annual quilt shop hop! I will prolly have a few funny pics of me and the gals with bunny ears on. Hope everyone's weekend is great and craft-tastic!!!
Deals of the week:
Red racks-sheets (2), 2 earrings, jeans and shirt $4 (shirt was 3 by itself!)
Goodwill- glass (half off) and DVD ($3) for $3.50
Savers-2 tshirts and book $7
Major thrift-hoodie and skirt $2.25

Week 12
So desert club was canceled due to someones family in the hospital (not mine) so we will be skipping it for this month. Hoping everything will be ok with them. :(
Having the day to ourselves Trav and I ended up staying in Blue Springs most of the day. Went to Burr Oaks and had a nice loooong walk then had burgers and sausages with his folks, nom nom! I ended up going to Red Racks and Goodwill down there, only got a pair of shoes for my costume. But they were only $2 so yay deal to be had.
So when I went to Naka Kon I wanted to buy a Pikachu or Kyo hat that was super cute but I figured I could make them myself so I decided if I really wanted one that is what I would do. So I found a super orange fleece scarf that was enough material (sorry no pic, forgot to take the "before" one) and this is the result. I haven't been able to find the yellow that I want yet but I am still looking. Honestly I may end up going to a fabric store to get the material but I am still looking for a fleece jacket or blanket at the thrift stores before I resort to that. Mom gave me some yellow fleece but it is super thin so I am still deciding if that will work....

So the present for the birthday girl was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hat! Michelangelo to be exact! (the orange one) And here is the result! I gave this to her on Friday night when we went to the Improv to see Aries Spears. We went to the Improv last friday as well to see Adam Fererra and he was hilarious! I love going to the Improv, it was super fun! Aries was amazing and I enjoyed his mor then Adam, his rapper impersonations are a riot! Oh and here is a pic (not a real good one) of Rachie with the hat on! I had a co-worker who requested some of the masks for her kids so I will be making those and will post them on the next blog. They are super easy to do, now that I know what I'm doing lol.
No reviews for this week but I hope to have some Springfield thrift store reviews for ya in the next week! Also the 14th Annual Quilt Shop Hop will be in two weekends so I will have lots of stuff to post about that! I have been researching thrift stores to stop by near each shop so I hope they are close! Well that is all for now, sorry so short! Still working on what to do with the tutorial :/ But I will get it done! I am determined!!
Hope you all have a safe and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Deals of the week:
Redracks- shoes $2 (for melfina costume)
Goodwill - zip up sweatshirt $1.05 (yay half off sunday sales)
Nearly New - purse $1 (half off day too!)

Week 11
This weekend is desert club with my mom and a few of her friends. We get together once a month to work on craft projects and eat yummy food and treats. Projects are worked on...sorta, it's more talking then working but hey it's fun! I usually bring pics or actual finished projects to show off and tell about any good thrift store finds I've run by. I'm the youngest one by far, most of them are in between my mom and grandma's age. I feel like I'm turning into an old crafty lady who will eventually have too many cats! But oh well it's fun and I enjoy it!
Had to put all current projects aside, to make a birthday present for a friend so I will be finishing it next week. Can't say what I am making either because I want her to be surprised! I will post pics next weekend, hopefully ones of her with it! But trust me it will be awesome!
Working on a tutorial for dissembling and reassembling metal belts into bracelets. I will have pics of all the ones I've done and have two that I will be working on in the video. Tips and tricks of what I do and a few pointers when finding the belts, which ones work the best and which ones are a pain in the arse. I will TRY really hard to get that done this week, it may take a bit because I haven't put a video together in quite a while. Prolly about 6+ years and it was with my old computer so I have to fiddle with the video on this one to figure it out. May get my youngest brother to help because he's been doing a lot of youtube video stuff lately.
Ok so the review for this week is the Hillcrest in Liberty:
7 West Mill Street, Liberty, MO 64068-2345
Ok I am sticking with my, "not impressed at all with this shop" mentality that I originally had! Yes I did go back in there with an open mind!!! But when you find the section for crafts and a new skein of yarn (old scratchy kind) that is marked $3 it all seems as if is down hill from there! Board games that look battered and beaten (aka loved) are 2, 3 and 4 $ is ridiculous! I am sorry but unless they are in their original wrappers they shouldn't be more then $2. The only things that I found that seemed like good prices (the only thing I would go there for) is books, ties, scarves and belts. You might get lucky with the material but I doubt it. They did have something amusing about the "sales sign" up at the front. They had two names on it and they said if this is your name then you get 20% off your purchase. That is an excellent idea. But when one of the names is Cyrs....makes me wonder if they are even serious....So anyways the staff is friendly and it is clean and organized so that is a plus. That means when you get to the things you want to look at it won't take you long to get out when you realize the prices are almost as high as buying something new. They had bags of toys, like plastic food. There was about 8-10 pieces in each and they were asking $5 for each bag. I have gone to the thrift store in Kearney and bout a gallon baggie of who knows how many pieces for $2.50 before. So I say pfft to your kids toys. I was so unimpressed with the shop, yet again, that I skipped the clothes so you are on your own with that. The only things I bought from here was a metal belt for bracelets and a tie for a costume. Not impressed and will prolly not go back for another 6 months, maybe.

4820 North Oak Trfy, Kansas City, MO 64118 For a long while I was very unimpressed with these shops, the only sales they were offering were senior discounts. Also I wasn't real happy with the mass pricing of every type of clothes, either. But they have updated a bit which brings me in more often then I use to go. They now have a sale every week for a certain color of tag and even the dvds are included. Which as a dvd collector this make me quite the happy camper. As always the shops are very organized and clean, staff is super friendly and prices are clearly marked. I usually go to this one after the Sunday sale at red racks because they are open an hour later. Sunday is also the start for a new tag being on half off, so getting there at time of open is a good way to check out all the sale stuff before it's picked over. The clothes as I mentioned are mass priced, as in all shirts are $X and all pants are $X but they do have tags indicating their color so they are included in the sale. Pretty much everything has a color tag or plastic tag indicator of different colors. Also if you ever have a need for records this is a place to find them, they have tons! Not much in the way of jewelry though. But all in all a shop I will continue to frequent!
No real pics this week so I will throw in a couple random ones:
The left is a pic of someones car at the thrift store, filled with all sorts of crap. Now I don't keep my car very clean but it's hella cleaner then this monstrosity!!!! The pic on the right is, yup you guessed it a donut with frackin fruit loops on it! Hyvee has them, I'm not a fruit loop fan but if you are this is I guess the meca of breakfast sugary sweetness.
Hope you all have a safe and happy Snake Saturday! Keep'a craftin!
Deals of the weekRed racks-3 sweaters (for projects) pen, cooler (small lunch one) and glass for my mom. $1.50 (yay Sundays)
Goodwill-2 dvds 4.50 (August Rush and 13 ghosts)
Major Thrift- Fleece and crochet hook $2.50
Savers- suspenders (for anime) $3
Nearly New- 3 crochet hooks and brand new skein of yarn $4

Week 10
Holy crap it's March! Can you believe it??? I never know where the first couple of months go!
My current projects I am working on are a stargate hat like this one... I have the blue part almost done, so by the next blog I will have finished pics. I found this when I was looking for stargate crochet stuff and hadn't even though of a hat! But really how could you not, the stargate is round so it just makes sense!!!! Anyways I found a denim colored yarn that works great for the blue, little bit darker then the hat in the pic but it works. And I have plenty of the gray and yellow-orange.
Another project from last blog has been changed, the Cosby cat sweater is gona be made from a sweater instead of crocheted. I have yet to make clothing (as in shirts and such) so I figured making a sweater out of a crazy sweater would be a little less mind bending. I will eventually work on (maybe) shirts but that is a little bit into the future. I am working my way up to that. I want to get all the basics down first. Also now that I have given a hat to it's recipient I can post pics so it won't spoil the surprise!
The last pic is a little fuzzy, sorry. This pattern I found online but I altered it to make it "more slouchy" the pattern is here http://www.allfreecrafts.com/crochet/tam.shtml and I added an extra round #5. Anyone who would like to make it I will be more then happy to answer questions. I also made this a little less snug around the forehead, just don't decrease (or as they call it dc2tog) as much. It all depends on your head size!

Oh and a few more projects I have done (before I started this blog) are a hat with beard, my brother wanted it for xmas, this was interesting cuz the hat was a simple round hat with a rib stitch rim and then I made rectangle rib stitch with a mouth hole. If anyone wants that pattern just let me know and I'll post instructions. Here is a pic of him with it on and me with it on! lol too funny!!! Oh and on a side note I told him sorry it's not the ones they sell online. He said no it's cooler because you made it! BEST complement EVER!!! I still need to work on a few more beards to give him. Will post pics when I get them done.
I also made some fingerless mitts that ended up being too short so I decided to add the rib stitch to them. I was a little obsessed with the rib stitch at the time.... I had to use a different but similar kind of yarn for the rib but it turned out good, the only difference is purple but I think it looks a lot better and it fits better too! This pattern came out of a crochet magazine, "steam punk mitts". In rainbow colors they don't really look steam punk they more look like rainbow brite! Which is even more of a reason for me to love them!
Well that is all for now. No reviews today but I will be sharing a few crazy, nostalgic and awesome finds I've made at thrift stores!
The pic on the left is a bracelet I got at a thrift store in Springfield, I'm not usually a gold jewelry fan unless I am getting jewelery for Renfest but it just jumped out at me and said "take me I belong to you!" So who could argue with that?!? But it's got little Hindu gods it and little pearls (fake of course) and I got it for about half off if I recall correctly it was $2 and I got it for $1. The middle pic is a couple purses (sorry can't see the one in the back that great. I got these for about $3 a piece and if you know me at all, you know I don't spend more then $5 on a purse. So I was very excited about these! The green one ended up going to a friend of mine for taking care of my cat while I was on vaca and the blue black zebra I got for myself! I'm not usually a zebra print (or really any animal print) fan but the is was something I just had to have. The pic on the left is a hole bunch of old hats, if I ever wore hats I prolly would have snatched a few of these up but I don't pull off hats that well and i don't go anywhere fancy enough either, that would require a hat...sad.
The next picture on the left is a rainbow brite bag I found at St. Jude Thrift, I didn't buy it and I really should have, when I went back it was gone. It was in really good condition too. Any girl who grew up in the 80's would love this! the pic in the middle is something very nostalgic to me. At my grandparents house my sister and I use to have these when we were little to drink out of. They were jam jars that you could use as drinking glasses when they were empty. I almost bought them too but alas I did not...but I got a pic so maybe that is enough of a reminder. I've also found these jars with Pokemon on them! The left pic is a huge cardboard cut out of Minnie mouse that stands alone. No price on this sadly but I had to get a pic! Antique malls have the strangest stuff!
Well that is all for now, I will dig through some of my pics on the computer and maybe come up with some cool pics for next time. Also I will try to go to some new thrift stores Friday and get some reviews done for the next blog. Hope everyone has a great weekend and happy thrifting!!!
Deals of the week:

Week 9
| Fingerless arm warmers |
| Zippers!!! and my lazy cat |
I went to Major Thrift (see review below) and got a big ol' bag of zippers for $4, it was a crazy amount of zippers as you can see in the pic! 1 red, 2 white, 5 yellow, 7 pink, 7 purple, 8 brown, 10 orange, 26 blues and 29 green. All various links and shades and one in it's original box. I think that's a pretty good deal! Flit decided not to play with any of them while I was separating them (thankfully!) and just laid there, prolly hoping I would leave the room so she could mess them up :/

Major Thrift 4 out of 5 shopping bags
Now I give it this because of all the yarn I have bought from this place and such good prices too, they fill the bags up with tons of different yarn and I love it. But they are a little wonky on their prices, wonky as in not totally consistent. I've found things that are exactly alike be two different prices. Granted I have never priced things for a thrift store, but still. Anyways they have sales during the week that are pretty good. Two tags for 50% off and two tags for 75% off during the week days and 20% off everything on Sunday. Not too bad of sale deals if I do say so myself. Granted it's no 25cent 5 for a dollar but I'll take what I can get! Also you can sign up for emails from them and it will tell you what that weeks sale colors will be.Review
Northland Thrift 4 out of 5 shopping bags
This may be a tiny shop but it is wonderful! They know how much they can hold and use every available space they have without being crowded, it's amazing. Stuff here is constantly changing and the staffers are super helpful and friendly. I don't know if I have ever gone here and NOT bought anything. Oh and this is where I got the lab coat for 50 cents!!! They had a rack for a while with 50 cent stuff on it. They have a little bit of everything here clothes, shoes, dishes, books, jewelery, pet stuff, blankets etc... The clothes are always nice and neat, separated by size etc. Defiantly recommended cuz you never know what you will find here! By the way it's kinda hard to see the sign but if you see the gold to cash place and the work that day pay that day place all ya have to do is go behind it. (You will understand when you get there!) And watch yourself when you are leaving people are rude and try to go when there is clearly no room for both of you to drive..
Plans for the day include, doing more research for the cat/Cosby scarf, maybe creating a mock up for Flit (she will be thrilled... I see scratches in my future...), dishes (which I am not thrilled about) and convincing the boyfriend that a trip to a thrift store is in order. It'll hopefully be a new one for me, there are two possibilities, one in liberty and one near 65th and troost.
Have fun all, happy thrift store hunting!!!

Reviews and addresses....
I was asked today about where good thrift stores are and that got me to thinking. (Scary right!?!) Anyways I was thinking that I need a post that will I can update each week so that I can at a glance keep track of what thrift store I have reviewed and which ones I haven't yet. This will help any of ya that want to know which ones are good (in my opinion, biased as it may be) and address (in purple) for them. So I present you with this extra (and out of the blue blog post!) Enjoy!!!
I give Savers 4 out of 5 shopping bags...
First stop was Savers on Noland, now I have to say Savers has never been one of my favorite thrift stores to go to but I find myself going there more often then I use to. It is always nice and clean and the staff is always friendly. Items are all organized and everything is up off the floor (which always makes me happy, nothing is worse then tripping over stuff when I am already a klutz as it is) and everything is labeled! Not only labeled as in department, but as in price and tag color. Clothes are organized by size, I prefer this to color or descending tag price but only when I am looking for clothing that I want to wear as apposed to something I want to craft into something else. Shoes are always in order of size, nice, neat and labeled on the shelves. Another thing they do is put the size of the shoes on the label, this makes a world of difference! The simple things in life! Books, toys and crafts always seem to be good deals. Nick nacks and dishes/pots/pans can vary in their prices and don't seem to make much sense, I've seen a pretty statue of an angel for $1.99 that is in perfect condition and then a smaller broken one for $2 or $3.99...little odd. But that is what thrift store "hunting" is for. Anyways, in general I give Savers stores 4 out of 5 shopping bags just because of the odd pricing... Address is 4466 South Noland Road, Independence, MO 64055
Review of thrift store 2:
I give Thrift World 2 out of 5 shopping bags...
Next stop was Thrift World on Noland, it is HUGE! But huge doesn't always mean great. It's very clean and people are friendly but the prices are a little bonkers. Seriously 2, 3 and 4 dollars for a tie??? Now I can understand if they may be silk ties with original tags and name brand or something but cheepy ties you can prolly find at dollar general? Now don't get me wrong when I went there I was happy to see all the Xmas stuff was all 98cents per item, that was awesome, and the tag sale price was the same 98 cents per item. But some of their regular stuff is just crazy. I bought a belt (one to be changed into bracelets) for 2.98 and it was missing a link but I had to have it. That should have been $2 or under really. I have been there and found a dress that was marked 19.98 that I found at DAV for 4.99 that I ended up getting half off because of a tag sale. No it wasn't a designer dress and no it wasn't in season and no the one at T.W. did NOT have it's original tags like the one at DAV did! Granted I will still shop there but only for sale stuff or if I can't find what I am looking for at the DAV. Address is 3848 S Noland Rd, Independence, MO 64055

I don't go to this one very often but I do enjoy it quite a bit. They have two levels and the only down side to that is you have to purchase everything you find on each level on each level. (redundant but the only way I can describe it) I was looking for glass bread pans but didn't find them, got metal bread pans though for only 50 cents a piece. They had a great deal on tv's for the new year sale only $10 for any tv! They had quite a few so I am assuming that is why they had the sale. Their sales are pretty good and they always have a calender of the current month sales at the registers, which is really nice to help plan shopping trips ahead of time. The top level consists of mostly clothing in the main room, on the right side they have little "shops" aka rooms for glass ware, books, shoes (belts and bags) and a boutique for women (fancy dresses and such). All the clothes are very well separated much like walmart departments and by size. Always kept nice and clean and the only thing on the floor (that would bother me) is the frames.
Just thought I would mention this is NOT the one in liberty, not all Hillcests are created equal! I have only been to the liberty one once and was not impressed but a fellow thrift store shopper said I should go back to check it out because they are now settled in and have more stuff, as well as adjusted prices. I'm a bit of a grudge holder so we will see.... :P
Mission thrift store (Claycomo) review:
4 out of 5 shopping bags
This little gem is jam packed with stuff, it is little and does have stuff sitting on the floor (my pet peeve) but it is great for finding odd items. Prices are also VERY good! What every thrift store should be! Got box of zippers for $5! Got a bag of metal buttons for $2, box of tailor chalk for $1, roller scissors (just thought these were cool) set of three for $1. Bad side is if you only use debit/credit cards the minium is $10. But if you have/carry cash no worries! The staff is older ladies and very friendly and more then willing to help with anything you are looking for. Love this place and try to stop in as often as I can. Hours are a little odd, but for deals like these it's worth it to make time to stop in.
Red Racks, previously known as DAV on N. Oak in Gladstone:

I give it 4 out of 5 shopping bags because I think in the past few years that I have been shopping there I only left w/out buying something one or two times. The staff is always friendly and the SUPER Sunday sales are awesome, although they usually have one tag 25cents 5 for a dollar and 50% off another tag. But latley it has been 25% off the other tag, this makes me sad. But alas the 25cents 5 for a dollar is the main reason I go! Love love love this sale. I have found countless bargains from this! And when you are on a budget but need need new clothes it is the best! The staff is always friendly and the store is always very clean. The clothes are orginized by tag but when you are looking for a bargain on these tag day sales you kinda have to buck up and deal. I don't mind going through everything because you never know. I have found dresses that are way too small for me on sale but the material is awesome and I get it anyways. I have also found shirts that were a little too snug but under a big sweater as an accent it works just fine :) The only bad thing about these sales is the amount of people who bring in their insane children who like to run around like crazies and the parents either have no control over them or don't care. Annoys the crap out of me! But what I won't put up with for a bargin...*sigh*
Red Racks
I give it 3 out of 5:
16813 E 23rd Street Independence Mo 64055
I do this for a few reasons, one because the staff is not all that friendly, yeah I know it's just your job and you would rather be at home in bed or what not, but you are getting paid to do a customer service job, please take some pride in your work. Be kind to your customers and don't be all meh. I know that's not a word but every time I go in there that seems to be the way they act... 2 the store is always messy at the back. The craft area is a nightmare and things are constantly spilling on the floor. Yes I know your shop is smaller then some of the others but you have plenty of stuff to get it orginized with, your a thrift store for crying out loud, put "not for sale" on a laundry basket and through stuff in it if you have to, instead of letting it pile up in a corner! 3 I don't know if it's just me but the prices seem a little higher here then the others I have been to... Don't get me wrong I will go to this store and shop but I have left empty handed more times then I can count and if I do buy anything it's one or two items at the most. Oh and the parking lot is atrocious so be careful if shopping there!
The Resale shop:
I give it 1 out of 5 shopping bags, and this is why. 6289 N Oak Trfy, Kansas City, MO
Their
prices are just plain silly. The shop is laid out like a boutique and
organized but it's like they are trying want to be a high end shop
without the product to back it up. The staff was ok, most of them
ignored me and only seemed to talk to me when I was getting ready to
leave. You don't have to worry about too many people because I doubt
they have much business and their hours just plain odd. The only reason I
was able to go here (the last time was more then a year or more ago,
and it hasn't changed much) was because I was off work early. I don't
think they get a lot of donations because the only racks/shelves that
had much was the clothing racks and those were packed super tight!
Everything was priced over what it should be. The sale they had going on
was a bag sale. Everything with a pink label, that you could fit in a
bag (brown paper bag that you get at the grocery store) was $4 for the
bag. Granted that this is an awesome sale but when I wondered around
after she told me about the sale I found maybe one pink tag. And I
wasn't even sure if this was a pink tag....it was more peach then
pink... They did have a calender at the door with the sales they were
having all month and I realized why there was so few of these, because
the sale was going on ALL week! Pink tags were half off Monday and
Tuesday, Wednesday was $6 dollar bag, Thursday was $5, Friday was $4 and
Saturday was $3, ridiculous if you ask me...
So all in all not a big fan of this store, and even if I get there in the hours they are open, highly unlikely, I probably won't come back.
St. Jude Thrift Store
Giving this 3 out of 5 shopping bags 340 Northeast 72nd Street Kansas City, MO 64118

(btw don't let the address fool you, it's on N. Oak)
Ok I really like this thrift store but the reason I give it 3 out of 5 is because of my pet peeve and they amount of stuff they pack into this store. Now don't get me wrong I will continue to go to this place forever, but I can't in good conscious give it a high rating. There is stuff all over the floor and the organization is minimal, the racks of clothes and tables things are sitting on look as if they will give way if they have one more thing added. But for all these flaws I have to say the prices are excellent! Even the prices on some of the items aren't really the prices. I went to pay for a glass that said 99 cents and she said, I'll give it to ya for a quarter. I said heck yeah and happily handed over the quarter! So all in all if you don't mind the mess and you have time to dig through things, bargains await you at this thrift store!!!

Now
I give it this because of all the yarn I have bought from this place
and such good prices too, they fill the bags up with tons of different
yarn and I love it. But they are a little wonky on thier prices, wonky
as in not totally consistant. I've found things that are exactly alike
be two different prices. Granted I have never priced things for a thrift
store, but still. Anyways they have sales during the week that are
pretty good. Two tags for 50% off and two tags for 75% off during the
week days and 20% off everything on Sunday. Not too bad of sale deals if
I do say so myself. Granted it's no 25cent 5 for a dollar but I'll take
what I can get!

(You will understand when you get there!) Ok so the first review for this week is the Hillcrest in Liberty:
